During a podcast interview on “WTF with Marc Maron”, Ben Schwartz shared the story of how he landed his dream job at MTV. He recounted how he dropped off his résumé at the MTV offices hoping to secure an internship. However, it was outside the studio where a staff member from the “Letterman” show approached him and asked if he would like to be a seat filler in the audience.
Inside the studio, Schwartz expressed his desire to work for “Letterman” and asked for guidance on how to obtain the job. A page then brought over their supervisor, who informed Schwartz that he couldn’t assist him without a résumé.
In a humorous turn of events, Schwartz pulled out all 20 copies of his résumé from his backpack. This led to laughter from the supervisor, who then scheduled a meeting with Schwartz. This meeting ultimately resulted in Schwartz securing a job writing jokes for Letterman’s monologue, which set his career in motion.
