She stated, “We initially intended to inspire and promote acceptance of same-sex relationships, to demonstrate that love is love, to eliminate stereotypes and discrimination, to simply exist. For a period of time, it seemed like we were heading in the right direction, we were fulfilling a purpose, we were in agreement, and we were content. Together, we defended ourselves against the critics, we advocated for equal rights, we fearlessly and unabashedly showcased our relationship to the world, and we believed we were making an impact.”
