A film about the iconic BlackBerry smartphone, which paved the way for devices like the iPhone and Android, is set to be released. Director Matt Johnson, who grew up near BlackBerry’s headquarters in Ontario, will bring the story of the once-popular smartphone to the big screen. The film, titled “BlackBerry,” follows the journey of the engineers at tech firm Research In Motion in the late 90s and early 2000s as they develop the world’s first smartphone. Despite its initial success, BlackBerry’s downfall came with the introduction of the iPhone in 2007. The film explores the rise and fall of BlackBerry, highlighting the company’s failure to adapt to the changing smartphone market. BlackBerry will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on October 6th.
