The UK’s intelligence, security, and cyber agency GCHQ has released a puzzle to attract potential new recruits who can think out of the box.
The visual puzzle, which pays homage to the agency’s historical ties to code-breaking, challenges individuals to identify the letters depicted in the image and piece them together to reveal a hidden message.
There are 13 elements within the puzzle representing letters of the alphabet.
GCHQ has stated that the puzzle, created in collaboration with Manchester-based artist Justin Eagleton, is geared towards individuals who process information differently and possess strong lateral-thinking skills.
The agency has also announced that it is unveiling the puzzle to coincide with the launch of its page on the LinkedIn social media platform.

GCHQ has revealed that the establishment of the LinkedIn page is a strategic move to recruit a diverse group of individuals to address the most challenging issues facing the UK and combat threats from nation states, criminal organizations, terrorists, and individuals.
The agency emphasized that the introduction of their new social media platform is part of their commitment to becoming a genuinely diverse and representative organization.

GCHQ director Anne Keast-Butler said: “The world is becoming more complex, and we can only stay ahead of these threats by bringing together the right mix of minds to tackle the challenges ahead.
“For us, this means attracting individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, insights, and knowledge, and forming a team where everyone can contribute. It’s clear to us that diversity is mission critical.
“So we are on a mission to reach out and connect with those who have never considered working with us. Today, we are launching on LinkedIn to showcase more of our work and the incredible people at GCHQ.
“As part of our LinkedIn launch, in true GCHQ style, and to encourage you to think outside the box, we are also releasing a puzzle. Try to identify the letters in the image and piece them together to reveal a message.”
