The 2023-24 Gopher women’s basketball season will witness a new voice taking over the microphone at the historic Williams Arena. Mike Kapsch, a long-time public address announcer, has been chosen to assume the role at the Barn starting this November.
Kapsch boasts over 15 years of experience as a collegiate public address announcer and currently holds the full-time position for the Minnesota volleyball team, which he will continue alongside his role with women’s basketball. Additionally, Kapsch has filled in at Gopher football games and has experience with Concordia University-St. Paul athletics events.
“I am extremely thrilled to contribute to the next era of Gopher women’s basketball, and I eagerly anticipate meeting Coach Plitzuweit and the rest of the team,” expressed Kapsch. “Announcing at Williams Arena is a special honor, and I have immense respect for everyone who has made ‘The Barn’ a remarkable venue throughout the generations.”
Beyond his involvement on campus, Kapsch runs his own business and spends his remaining free time with his wife Emily and their two children, Cooper and Lincoln.
Kapsch’s inaugural game as the public address announcer for Gopher women’s basketball at Williams Arena will take place on Wednesday, November 8, when the Gophers host LIU in the season opener.
