University of Minnesota redshirt junior Abbey Murphy has been named WCHA Forward of the Week after scoring five goals and one assist in the Gophers’ weekend sweep of St. Thomas, the conference announced Monday.
Murphy earns her first WCHA weekly award of the season and third of her career. The Gophers’ assistant captain found the back of the net three times on Friday night at Xcel Energy Center, while also adding two assists in what was a single-game career high in points for the Evergreen Park, Ill. native.
Murphy lit the lamp once more on Saturday afternoon during Minnesota’s 4-0 win in the team’s series finale against the Tommies.
The Maroon and Gold (4-0-0) will take on St. Cloud State (5-1-0) on Oct. 17 for their home opener. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
