Spotify Technology is currently testing an AI-powered feature that will translate podcasts into different languages. According to Spotify, the translated versions of podcasts will closely mimic the original speaker’s style and sound more natural than traditional dubbing. This feature is made possible by Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s newly released voice generation technology.
Popular podcasts such as Armchair Expert, Diary Of A CEO, and The Bill Simmons Podcast will soon be available in languages like Spanish, French, and German. Initially, the voice translations will be limited to a selection of catalogue episodes and future releases, but Spotify plans to expand the availability of this feature in order to reach a wider audience.

This latest announcement is part of Spotify’s ongoing efforts to increase revenue. The company has been capitalizing on the growing popularity of AI technology, particularly since the release of ChatGPT. Additionally, Spotify has been heavily investing in its podcast business, hoping that the higher engagement levels offered by this format will attract more advertisers. Earlier this year, Spotify raised the price of its ad-free premium service in over 50 countries, including the US, UK, and Ireland.
