Tom Hanks has issued a warning to his 9.5 million Instagram followers regarding an advertisement that features his face without his permission. The actor claims that the ad is using an artificial intelligence (AI) version of him. He wrote on Instagram, “Beware!! There’s a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me. I have nothing to do with it.” Hanks disabled comments on the post. Deepfakes, which are realistic yet fabricated videos created by AI algorithms, have become a growing concern in the entertainment industry. Hanks will star in the upcoming film “Here,” which will use AI to de-age his character on screen. The actor has previously discussed the rise of AI technology and its impact on the industry. The use of AI has also sparked strikes among US actors and writers who are demanding better safeguards against unauthorized use of their images. The writers’ strike recently ended, while the actors’ strike is ongoing.
