I can’t even remember why I initially decided to watch this film; probably because it’s sometimes referred to as Andy Warhol’s Dracula, and I was curious about what that would look like. And now I know.
Essentially, Dracula travels from Romania to Italy in search of virgin blood, assuming that Italy, being a predominantly Catholic country, would have an abundance of virgins. However, he soon realizes that he is mistaken. When he approaches an aristocratic family, expressing his desire to marry one of their numerous daughters, he proceeds to prey upon each one in succession. Each daughter claims to be a virgin, but in reality, they are lying, and their deception causes Dracula to become gravely ill. If you’re interested in hearing Dracula with a comical accent exclaim, “ZHE BLUD OF ZEEZ WHORES EES KILLING ME,” then this might be the film for you!
PS: I understand that there are many defenders of Blood for Dracula out there, and while I had a lot of fun watching it, let’s not pretend that it was good. Was it campy? Yes. Was it ridiculous? Yes. Was it…good? Um…
Where to watch it: You can watch it for free on Vudu or Plex.
