The University of Minnesota women’s golf team concluded the first round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, AR. Currently, the team is in 10th place with a score of 312 (+24). Megan Furtney leads the team individually with a 4-over-par 76. Host University Arkansas is in the lead with a score of 285 (-3).
Head coach Rhyll Brinsmead commented, “It was just one of those days where the golf course won. This score looks worse than it actually was, this golf course is punishing and I’m actually proud of the way the team kept grinding. You can’t miss anywhere at The Blessings and we made too many mistakes off the tee. We will make some adjustments before tomorrow and get back at it.”
Notably, Megan Furtney fired the low round of the day for the Gophers, finishing tied for 25th with a round of 76 (+4). Isabella McCauley finished just one shot shy of Furtney, carding a 5-over-par 77 and sits in a tie for 29th heading into round two. Hailey Loh also finished the day in a tie for 29th with a score of 77 (+5), recording three birdies and seven pars. Grace Curran registered twelve pars and finished round one tied for 45th with a score of 82 (+10). Freshman Sara Tomaszewski ended the day in 50th place with a round one score of 84 (+12), including two birdies and six pars.
Round two of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational will take place tomorrow, October 3rd. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com, and the event will be streamed on The Golf Channel from 3:30-6:30 p.m. CT.
